Parmin Gallery

Born: 1966, Indonesia

Education:
- Studied Art at Pendidikan SMEA Wonogiri, Jawa Tengah

His Works:
Parmin's journey with the art scene in Indonesia as an artist started in 1986 when he went to Pasar Seni Jaya Ancol, Jakarta. There he lived and painted alongside many other Indonesian artists and was helping out senior artist, Godod Sutejo. Driven by his inquisitive nature, Parmin learnt and listened to anyone who was willing to teach him.
Parmin did not start off as an artist, instead he started by learning how to recognize the different types of art, selling paintings and restoration works of paintings. Until finally, he was taken under the tutelage of Godod and his friends. It has been a long journey for Parmin, but the artist felt that what he did not learn in the University, he learnt from his experiences and that this had benefitted him more.

It began from doing humble works for Godod, preparing the materials for Godod to paint and selling the paintings, now an artist himself, P.Armin's life revolves around his own artworks. Although Parmin's life as an artist may seemingly look like it was smooth sailing and leisurely even, starting off with small exhibitions among those were, Bursa FKY 1995, bursa Bank Bali, Bursa di Ancol Jakarta, Surabaya, Solo, Semarang, Bandung, Wonogiri. But with every opportunity he gets, Parmin continously remain active in the artscene iregardless the size of the exhibitions.
An active individual in the art scene as well, Godod Sutejo is always busy organising exhibitions both nationally as well as internationally. An apprentice to Godod since the beginning, it is not uncommon to find Parmin wherever there is an exhibition involving Godod.

A rare opportunity to showcase Indonesian artworks in an exhibition in France appeared in 2004. It was held in the home of Mrs Emmanuel Berthery at 108, rue de la Folie Mericourt – 75011 Paris – France on the 27th to the 28th November 2004. It had an audience of 250 guests living within and around Paris. There were nine Indonesian artist featured, in which four were from Yogyakarta and five from Jakarta : Iprin, Widodo, Maryuli, P. Armin, Risan Hadi, Tommy, Sjafri, M Yaqub Uyun, Titis, Nita.

The exhibition was a success with 44 out of 84 paintings sold, out of which four of Parmin's were sold. The Parisians' high level of appreciation fuelled a second exhibition held on the 7th of March in the same year at KBRI Paris.

Parmin's paintings are naïve, innocent even but Parmin strives for consistency and that special something with each and every painting he creates. Parmin was trained as a realist but he softens the paintings with his colour choice of pastels creating a calming effect to the viewer. His expressions and compositions are calming and without disturbing irregularities.
